Straight back to the present again and winter in this part of Germany can be a grey time, often without a glimpse of sunshine for days on end. Corona lockdowns, gloomy news headlines, cancelled events and restrictive lives haven’t helped to create much of a sense of optimism and cheer – usually here it would be Carnival time now and days of celebration and craziness.  However, at least, we’ve been lucky to enjoy quite a number of snow days this year – these add a touch of sparkle and light in what would otherwise be a very dreich period.
